BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT--JOEL P. BENNETT
Joel P. Bennett has been representing federal employees in discrimination matters since 1973. He also represents federal employees before the Merit Systems Protection Board and in federal courts. He has tried more than 50 employment discrimination cases in court and handled hundreds of cases before the MSPB and the EEOC. Mr. Bennett also represents employers and employees in federal court in Maryland and District of Columbia employees before the DC Office of Employee Appeals.
Mr. Bennett is the author of Winning Attorneys Fees from the U.S. Government (Law Journal Seminars Press 1984) (updated annually) and several articles on employment law. He has served on the Steering Committee of the Labor Law Section of the District of Columbia Bar and chaired that section's EEO committee.
Mr. Bennett is a graduate of Brown University and the Georgetown University Law Center, where he served on the Law Journal. He spent his junior year of college at the London School of Economics.
Mr. Bennett clerked for a U.S. District Judge in Chicago after graduation from law school. He then spent several years as a trial attorney with the Federal Trade Commission and as an associate with the Washington, D.C. law firm of Stein, Mitchell & Mezines. He started his own law practice in 1976.
Mr. Bennett has served as the President of the voluntary Bar Association of the District of Columbia and the Chair of its Young Lawyers Section. He also served as the chair of the Law Practice Management Section of the American Bar Association. Mr. Bennett has served as chair of the Government Personnel Committee of the Administrative Law Section of the ABA. He has also served as the Chair of the Litigation Section of the District of Columbia Bar.
